Counterweight powered trebuchet where the counterweight is directly attached to the short arm. Simplest of all trebuchet designs mechanically.

- Easy to build.
- Lots of information available.
- More energy available than HCWs for low ratio trebuchets.
Disadvantages
- Less tunable than HCW trebuchets at high ratios.
